Hark!

O holy crayola! Yesterday, I parked my car in front of Kanley Chapel, grabbed my checks, and started towards National City Bank at the Bernhard Center. In front of me walked two dudes in suits, shirt, pants, tie, and allll that jazz. And they turned around and asked me if they could speak with me about religion. At first I was flattered, and I started ranting about how I was raised a Hindu, but went to Catholic school, and am currently a scientist (at heart)...and they were from the Church of Latter Day Saints, Mormons I think they said.

So, they asked me a bunch of questions, one of which was would you like to "pray and meet with us and hear the voice of God?"..aka.."wanna join our club?"

Me: *stares cheekily* So, what do you think God looks like? Is he a human, and an old one with a big hairy white beard that's 40 bajillion miles long? (I didn't say 40 bajillion, sorry)
Them: *huh* That's a good question. But we think that it is something spiritual manifested as a human.
Me: So what about bacteria, and viruses...do they have a God? And if an elephant saw God, would it be human?
Them: Do you think animals have the capacity to think of God?
Me: Do we know? WE DON'T KNOW DO WE?! How can you say you're right by discounting about 90% of life on earth?! I am a scientist and even I can't discount that we even remotely understand other species on earth and their cognitive abilities! If an elephant did believe in God, do you think it'd be like 'O Human God, I boww dooownn before thee!' HOW DO YOU KNOW?!
Them: *silence*
Me: I believe anything and everything is God, including myself. I believe in cosmic energy.
Them: *wow* *gasps* That's a great way to put it!
Me: *FOR SERIOUSLY?!* Where do you think God is?
Them: He's all around, but there's parts that are (i think they meant) "concentrated"
Me: Then how can he be all around?
Them: But if you pray with us God will show you the truth from what is wrong.
Me: Isn't what's wrong also wrongfully true? Meaning, isn't "wrong" also true that it's wrong..so essentially, there is no "right" or "wrong" or "good" and "evil"..just choice of which truth is followed?
Them: *confused looks*
Me: And what about evolution and creation?
Them: We believe that they're both possible..that God gave humans the option of selecting either. So Adam and Eve were made in God's image, and that's what we believe.
Me: *what the frick?!* How can TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS happen at the SAME TIME?!!!
Them: *chuckle & stare @ themselves*

Me: *Yea, you need to think about your shit before you try to convince someone else*

For you: I deeply respect all religions and faiths, and I respect what these two young men had to say to me. It was a great debate! But one should have complete understanding about all the faiths of this world to preach it...one should respect freedom of choice, and respect other cultures and beliefs. I'm not saying I know everything...I KNOW NOTHING. But I know that nobody will ever fully understand how our world functions, how humans function, without seeking to understand other beliefs. It solidifies certain common grounds within ALL religions..one of which is essentially Morality, wherein lie concepts of do unto others as you would to yourself, etc. Without true understanding and respect for different beliefs, one can never TRULY believe in God.

:)

I is happy. Friday the 13th ended up being the best day of my entire life. Better than President's Scholar Award day. That day, I attended a Spanish Department Award ceremony, which I thought would be relatively short and simple..as in I would get a certificate of my greatness in spanish..that is all. But it was SO much more. My friend Lauren, fellow Chemistry Presidents Scholar was there as well, so I think she's following along in my 'footsteps' if I ever had any. ;) *checks* *yup* I gots some. :D (they're cute too)

Anywho, I really wanted my parents to attend, but since I didn't know what a big deal it was, I didn't really feel too sad at their absence. So I check my name on the program sheet, and I'm like 7th down, for the Maria Moliner Award. I have no clue what it is ofcourse. I saw some of my favorite professors in the WORLD though (Sr. Pastrana-Perez, Sr. Felkel, Sr. Millar, Sra. Montilla), so I spoke to them. (lots of hugs, and a few kisses from Dr. Felkel! *haha*)It was GREAT!!!! And Dr. Pastrana explained to me what the award meant, mainly that Maria Moliner had written the world's BEST illustrated Spanish Dictionary, in a time when the male gender dominated such fields. So this award, in his eyes, was representative of me entering medicine, a field predominated by males. (which I wonder if it's true anymore *contemplates*) But that got my spirits up, and I had a seat, after which the award ceremony began.

There were about nine seniors in the category I was in, each with their own award. eg. my friend Mary got the Premio Antonio de Nebrija. *yay Mary!!* :D ..for her 'intellectual wit' (she's a friggin' mathematical genius). But what surprised me the most was that before handing out the award, they described the award, and the origins of the award's name, but then they went into PRAISING..literally, PRAISING EACH AND EVERY STUDENT!!! Every award was preceded by at least three quotes about the student from different professors. So obviously, when it came to me, I was already trembling. Dr. Pastrana, Dr. Millar, Dr. Felkel, and Dr. Montilla had SO MANY things to say, they couldn't STOP!!! OMG. I was barely able to stand when I went up to get the award, and my eyes started watering and my throat hurt. O dear. It was the best, most honorable experience of my LIFE. :)

*whew* So, I'm happy. It's moments like these when I feel appreciated when I least exptected it. I love such moments. Most of all, I love that the people I most respect bestowed upon me such an unexpected honor. It's not the award that counts (which by the way was the LaRousse Illustrated, that Maria Moliner wrote) it was all the hugs, and kisses, and the exchange of nervous spanish jutting out of my being. *haha* It was priceless.

And then..THEN..my family and I planned to have dinner at Olive Garden that night, and my mom wore a Sari!!!! She looked PHENO-MEN-AL!!! HOLY CRAYOLA! My dad and I wouldn't stop swooning over her! *haha* It was an AWESOME dinner, full of love, and family. Just family.

So those of ye who believe Friday the 13th is bad..I kid you not, there's no such thing. Every day could be spent joyously. It's how you decide to appreciate it that counts. So make the most of it eh?!

:)

swoonage of eh-panyol

*kills self for not 'tilding' the n*

So my spanish class RULES! Here's the shortest latin american story EVER written:

"El dinosaurio -by Augusto Monterroso
Cuando desperto, el dinosaurio todavia estaba alli."
translation: "When I woke up, the dinosaur was still there."

O_O *stares*...for some reason, I LOVE how a sentence that small could mean SO much!

*haha* *compliments self-nerdiness*
Here's some good advise for us women though:
"Cuando un hombre que esta vivo te hace llorar, hay que dejarlo. Solo se llora por los amantes muertos." -Clara Obligado
translation: "When a man who is alive makes you cry, you have to leave him. Cry only over dead lovers."

..that's some wicke' awesome advise. :D
*enough feminism* ;)

you're ugly *evil grin* $:>

Dr. E: "If you want to call someone ugly, you can say 'Your cell adhesion molecules SUCK!!!'"

*ahahaahah*

Dear me, life is busy, but good. Last night we had like a frikkin' blizzard, when the day-before it was 70 degrees outside and I wore slippers. SLIPPERS!!! I wore a skirt, and now..I'm huddled up in 127,239,235,328 layers of clothing!!!! Why o why does the weather have to make us used to high temperatures, then TAKE IT ALL AWAY?! *raises arms to heavens*

:D

O, and the reason I've been so incredulously busy, is that I have a poster presentation for the KCMS Research Day on Wednesday next week, and want to complete writing my rough draft for the honors thesis by tomorrow (which 99.5% may not happen *hehe*, but to be optimistic 0.5% MAY happen), and then I have to finish like 50 million pchem lab reports. *stares @ last four words*

:D I'm still happy that I'm alive. And I love those of you who I haven't seen since Pluto was demoted..you should know, you are missed. *MUA*

aafta' fifty gazillion years! :o

*wicke'* I'm done basking in sorrow! :D ..well, the baskage might return occasionally, but I'm definitely recovering from the wake up call.

Pramod is officially an MS now! OMG...that's frikkin' HUGE! He's my buddy at the lab who worked for so long in engineering, and so knew absolutely NOTHING of biochemistry. He got pretty tore up in his first few committee reviews and presentations..but he's finally perfected himself as a scientist in biochemistry. That is an incredible feat. Dr. S2 and the committee members were praising his Thesis, and presentation. I helped. *beams selfishly with pride* ;)

*sighs with major swoonage*

Also, for those of you who don't already know, (I suppose I should announce this SOMETIME before it becomes one of those "o, it was something I got in high school but isn't relevant in my life anymore really..") I am the Presidential Scholar for the Department of Biological Sciences at WMU!!!!!!! How sa-weet is that huh?! *punk sign* AND...AND...The Spanish department is awarding me with something as well as an exceptional senior in their departement!!! :D :D :D

*I rule*

...haha. I'm excited. I mean there's a limit to being sad. You can't do it all the time, because then you ruin yourself, and wonderful viruses linger around you basking in joy upon reaching your lymph nodes..or is that sorrow for them when they're presented to B and T cells? *ponders* Yea, I got so sad, some happy virus inhabited my being for about two weeks..I'm on antibacterials right now to avoid opportunistic damn pathogens! *holds up antibacterial sword* *grr*

My point is..let us all be happy, and realize that our true potential is not the money we have, not the things we own, not the clothes we wear and not even who we choose to look up to. Our true potential is within ourselves, and this is most realized in the present moment..NOW. Soooo...what're you doing RIGHT NOW SLAACKER?!!!

Get to it! :)

what dreams may come...

"All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible."

Pioneers

PIONEERS. -Bloc Party
If it can be broke then it can be fixed, if it can be fused then it can be split
It's all under control
If it can be lost then it can be won, if it can be touched then it can be turned
All you need is time

We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?

A sense of purpose and a sense of skill, a sense of function but a disregard
We will not be the first, we won't
You said you were going to conquer new frontiers,
Go stick your bloody head in the jaws of the beast
We promised the world, we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?

Breath in, breath out

So here we are reinventing the wheel
I'm shaking hands with a hurricane
It's a colour that I can't describe,
It's a language I can't understand
Ambition, tearing out the heart of you
Carving lines into you
Dripping down the sides of you

We will not be the last.

*okie dokes*

Um, this is just an update. :) *update*

A WHOLE BUNCH OF SHIT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW! *dies*

...the end.

Nevermind, actually, when I get all sad and my view of life from the earth starts plummetting horrendously into the sun, which subsequently explodes and sends the entire galaxy hurtling into the Andromeda, which creates a massive supernova capable of demolishing the Universe, ..um, where was I? *recollects*

*right*..When I get all sad and ..all of the above begins to happen...I try to drop off of planet earth. I huddle into my ickle shell and swoon at happy times, at times when life had meaning, and at times when global warming could be considered a belief and not a fact. I think of times when I arrogantly strutted around like a smart chick, and obnoxiously dismissed anyone who tried to convince me to do better on my MCATs. And now, I bask in sunless doom. I bask in sorrow, and need to contemplate about where I have to take my life. It's on a massive pause. Kind of like, when a cheetah realizes that in running so fast, he/she dropped its lucious meat. That's what I did. My meat is gone. *poof* *shabam*

All that's left is me.

chocolate lions

I was trying to sleep last night, and saw a stain on my wall.

It looks like a lion eating a heart. :o

...but it's a chocolate stain. I have the wonderful ability to stain stuff with chocolate. *woops* I shall have an entertaining picture of it soon. :)

I've been WORKING MY BUTT OFF @ Stapletons! OMG..peoples, pray to the Spaghetti monster, or the chocolate god, or just about any heavenly entity for me getting results! O dear..I really want this to happen. I really want good results to happen...to me.

And I officially think homo sapiens that determine the weather, aka weathermen, are retarded or slow or something. I mean..ok, you've got your fancy computer models, and so called intelligence in deeming the weather a certain way...but for crying out loud! JUST STEP OUTSIDE before telling us it's going to be warm! *baah*

Dr. Essani: "Don't believe it when someone tells you he/she loves you! THEY MAY JUST BE IN HEAT!!!"

;)

O man, I love how life is so busy. The other day Sandhya and I just sat for an hour contemplating how we swoon upon ourselves, when in fact, in the context of it all..the Universe, and Everything, life doesn't even matter! So then I asked why we even thought so highly of our individual selves (self's?), and we concluded that it was just to survive. In order to survive, we must think of our own well-being, or else we'd die.

So I ask you...why do we need to survive?

"a septic parable"

O man,I found this GORGEOUS story about plasmids: *enjoy*

"The wise molecular biologist tells us the tale:

Once upon a time, a plasmid met a cell, and they struck up a conversation. Saith the plasmid, "Kind cell, I bring thee a gene for antibiotic resistance, and if you let me in, I shall repay you by showing you how to make an enzyme that might save your life one day." The cell replied with annoyance, "What use hath I for the likes of thee? My food is all gone, I'm freezing my pili off, and you think my biggest problem is antibiotics? Maybe you're just a selfish gene, looking for a cell to make copies of you. Begone!" The plasmid smoothed out his supercoils, dodged a DNase, and tried to think of a suitable reply.

Just then, a massive wave of thermal energy struck them both, and it was all he could do to not lose his footing, standing as he was on the cell membrane. The plasmid trembled, partly to distribute the energy uniformly to his vibrotational degrees of freedom, but mostly at the thought of how painful thermal denaturation might be. Fortunately, it was not coming to that. Not this time. The temperature was high enough to pop a few hydrogen bonds, and his strands were breathing a bit, but he was covalently closed after all. He could handle it!

The cell was not so lucky, however. His membrane, which had been reasonably firm to this point, began to swirl and form vortices, and lost its smooth surface. The cell had gotten used to the cold temperatures by boosting the fraction of short chain and unsaturated fatty acids in his membrane. While it gave the membrane a good consistency in the icy cold, it was completely wrong for this new, higher temperature. The van der Waals interactions weren't strong enough to maintain cohesion, and errant lipids were now leaping through the bilayer like divers at a mosh pit. Huge patches of the membrane were involuting, bringing massive gulps of medium inside. The cell was just seconds away from a complete membrane breach!

Then, as quickly as it had started, the problem was over. The buzz of thermal energy was drawn away by some unseen entropic sink, and dissipated. The membrane returned to its glassy-smooth state. The plasmid was now inside the cell, having been carried through the membrane in its moment of weakness, but the cell was too preoccupied to notice the uninvited guest. The cell was using his last remaining energy to bail out the excess liquid, and set his ion gradients to rights. When he thought he could do no more, that his determined course would be senescence and death, a warm flow of fresh medium restored his spirits.

"Ah! Tryptone, and yeast extract", he said as he gratefully derepressed half a dozen operons. His ribosomes got right to work, making the enzymes that would help to catabolize the new food source and restore the structure of the cell to full health. He almost exclaimed, "I thought Darwin had me for sure that time!" but being a cell with little memory he had already forgotten the privations of a few minutes earlier. Thirty minutes passed, and he found himself cast onto a wide surface that was warm and rich in nutrients.

"Not bad", he said. I could live like this for generations!" But then, the horrible sounds of dying cells reached him. All around him, his brethren were being killed by an unseen attacker. An antibiotic was there, and was destroying the entire population. Oh the humanity! He braced himself for death, but then ... nothing happened. He was alive!

"Remember me?", said the plasmid? "I told you that I might save your life one day, and now it has come to pass." The plasmid, which had gone unnoticed since the thermal catastrophe, had been copied several times and transcribed by the cellular machinery. It had provided a gene that encoded an enzyme that destroyed the antibiotic before it even got into the cell. Although more antibiotic was diffusing into the neighborhood, the enzyme was on the job, and prevented it from doing any damage.

"Yes, you were right", said the cell. "I am grateful that you transformed me, and now that I have a logical explanation for my good health, I don't have to develop survivor guilt either. Stick with me, plasmid, and I'll make sure you are provided with a high copy number."

The generations passed, and the cell divided many times. Each time there was fission, the two daughter cells received an inheritance of plasmid copies. There was widespread prosperity.

I would say "They lived happily ever after", but sadly that is not the end of the story. The daughter cells grew into a prodigious colony, and soon had destroyed so much of the antibiotic in the immediate vicinity that the real danger had passed. Some cells that had not perished in the original attack even managed to survive and grow nearby - little "satellite colonies" seeking refuge from the high levels of antibiotic elsewhere.

Then the cells in the big colony became lazy. The plasmid was not replicated to the same high copy number - it no longer served the interests of the cell to do so. Sometimes, daughter cells did not inherit even a single copy of the plasmid! As the colony aged and grew, the proportion of cells that carried the plasmid became less and less.

The colony actually believed itself to be quite progressive on this point. Some of the more strident cells even argued: "Why should young cells be forced to make enzymes that they don't need?" They said "We want to evolve higher order characteristics, not merely regurgitate the knowledge that served our great-great-great grandcell!" Before long it was unfashionable to carry the plasmid, though a few still did, but the colony grew faster without the added responsibility of the added synthesis.

One day, a toothpick scraped the colony from a plate and carried it high into the sky. "At last," the progressive cells thought, "we are entering a bold new era in which we are going to be able to realize our true genetic potential!" The toothpick was dropped into a tube of fresh medium. The fresh medium had fresh antibiotic.

What happened next is almost too horrible to tell. The cells that still carried the plasmid lived of course. They produced the enzyme that destroyed the antibiotic. The cells that had not inherited the plasmid were unworried at first, because they thought that a protective shield of enzyme could be built by the others, but being in liquid medium there was no hope for them. The antibiotic was not limited by diffusion, as it had been on the plate, and they were soon overcome.

The few wise cells that had not lost their plasmid went on to eternal storage in glycerol stocks, and were written about in books and famous journals. They were grown in huge 10,000 liter fermentation tanks, and provided with the very richest medium that had ever been made!

The end." source: http://www.escience.ws/b572/L2/L2.htm

*blizzard attack!* :&

Well hello there ye who are warm and cozy!!! *not me* :(

It's been BLIZZARDING here for the past two friggin' days straight!! OMG..I didn't even know the meaning of that word until it happned!! And its happening..is NOT fun. On friday we went to get some groceries (as usual) and it was PACKED with people scrambling to get food! Like dudes! The world is NOT ending! ..yet.

And then, I sat on my little couch staring all day out of the window..actually staring every two minutes, becoming HORRIFIED at the horrendousness of the snowy blizzard attacking my driveway (which I gaped at open-mouthed b/c it would ALL have to be shoveled *brr*) Then in between those mahvelous blizzard-infested minutes, I'd watch movies cozily cuddled up in my comforter with delicious WARM SPICY indian food!!! *swoons*

If most of ye hate indian food, you know, I'm quite alright with it. But there's one thing it is good for...blizzarding days yo! ;) Trust me..I have experience. However, I think I gained 10 pounds over the last 42 hours. *woops*

Anywho, I thought I'd leave with a snowy reminder..that even though it's blizzarding here..life still moveth on. *chum*

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

the two F's

Dr. Essani:

"You see, there are two things that every cell in the human body enjoys like heck. One is food, and the other..well, the other." *interruption of class gasping, cackling, and massive blushing* "It is simply the only purpose of life."

I think about my dreams sometimes, about what I want to do with my life. How I'll spend all that gorgeous and precious time expanding my knowledge about anything and everything in life...and then I think about the two F's. *woops* I guess I should spend my time giving pleasure to every cell in my body.

But then not only would I become obese, but a whore. (both of which are greatly not selectively preferable in achieving the reproductive ends life is defined by) *what irony*

;) Don't worry..I'm still me. Still tiny, and not even CLOSE to the 'w' word. :D :D :D Yea, so don't worry. I still suck at life. :D :D :D :D

a galaxy far, far away

I played this game with a computer, and it spat out this story:

"As I was dramatizing at the ties, I wondered what life would be like on another world. Would people have wheels on their yucky xylem to help them move about more politely? Would each person have a turmeric to help them do their work? For a moment, I admonished I could travel to a troublesome world like this to raking what life would be like. Then I realized that with two teenaged plumes, life here was confusing enough.

Now THAT'S comedy."

Apparently, it's called a 'manicdote.' :D

I also realized, that I suck on weekends. I basically just mope joyously around not doing anything, but pretending to do something at the same time, not succeeding at all at any of it, getting yelled at by the rents for not doing chores *boo*, then pretending to do chores, then pretending to do homework as an excuse to not do chores, then pretending to flail when the rents discover i was pretending all along. The mahvelous ending: I sit up till 47463.970 a.m. monday morning frantically pretending to actually do some homework. *whew*

Apart from all of that..I miss my bestest friend tremendously. :( I wish she were here so that we could take trips through the galaxy, kill savage microbes with bunsen burners, and um, swoon uncontrollably for no particular reason. :) *giggles*

And for those of you who've been enjoying the BEAUTIFUL FLUFFY SNOW so much (like me)...a word of caution..or rather, a video of caution:

*wishes*

If I had three wishes, one of them would be this:

To be able to look up at the sky when gorgeous fluffy snow is falling! Why on planet earth do my eyes have to get retarded, bothered, and twitchy by those beautiful things floating around me?! Why on Zarquon can't I have the ability to see them falling from the sky?!

(Just some additional info: I'd also wish for more wishes, and wish that they come true) ;)

Life thus far has been...surprisingly busy. Seriously, I think the Spaghetti Monster's Noodly Appendage has graced my presence...meaning, I think it recognized all that white space and decided to scribble a bunch of random happenstances within it (excluding those which I most want). Translation: Even though I have 11 credit hours ONLY, I haven't been able to get a good night's sleep (more than 4 hours per night) because I've been extremely busy. (I guess wishes do come true in their own evil coniving ways) I really need to get a move on in terms of my research at Dr. Stapletons. O boy. DO I. I have no clue what I'm doing anymore and recently found out that probably the past 2 months of intense work at her lab have ended up as absolutely futile, because some RETARDED FUCKING ASSHOLE maintainance idiot decided to change the protocol I used for my assay. And what's better, it's been the SAME guy maintaining that machine for 24 years, and this is the FIRST time he's decided to change the machine's protocol, and what's even better, there's normally a flag that tells the machine what protocol to use (mine was 6, and it got changed to 8)...and THERE's NO FLAG FOR PROTOCOL 8!!!!!!!!! So, not only is my data invalid, but I can't even GET more data because the machine won't know what the heck it's doing.

*passes out*

Apart from that, there's other massive reading/study loads. Dr. Essani said yesterday that "the moment you think you know everything, you stop learning." And I think that happened to me. I got a 2.2/5 on my first Virology quiz. Yea, wow. (btw, EVERY point in that class is 1% of our grade) I just assumed that it was too easy for me and decided not to try. Peoples, it does not work that way. *woops* And my spanish class is kicking my butt because for the first time it's really difficult reading, but for the first time, I can actually handle it on my own without ANY dictionary! I just 'forget' to read the material though, which could be a problem I need to address pretty soon. My computer science class..well..*pft* What's left? *Aha* And I love pchem. Truly. I'm starting to like my professor, and I think it's because he's just as quirky, nerdy, unstoppingly conversational, and goofy as me. Did I mention smart? Yes, he's brilliant...like me. :)

And guess what that leaves me with? Othello. I've been reading Othello instead of nerdy science papers. *looks nerdily away* But these studies do also bring to mind something important:

"Iago: Tis in ourselves that we are thus, or thus. Our bodies are our gardens, to which our wills are gardeners; so that if we will plant nettles or sow lettuce, set hyssop and weed up thyme, supply it with one gender of herbs or distract it with many - either to have it sterile with idleness or manured with industry - why the power and corrigible authority of this lies in our wills." -Othello, Act I, Shakespeare

If my wish for more wishes came true, and if I made the said 'more wishes,' I would wish that each of us realize our will, and where we want to lead it (not where it chooses to lead us).

*bling bling*

So, what Dr. Essani established as the "4 things in life:"

1. Things are what they appear to be.
2. Things are not what they appear to be.
And the two following are relatively "dangerous,"
3. Things are, and do not appear to be.
4. Things are not, and do appear to be.

*hmmm* *deep contemplation*

I am really happy right now. My buddy Steve went to Nicaragua and not only SAW but actually TOUCHED AND SUTURED in a few of about 34 surgeries in 4 days!!!! HOLY CRAP! THAT'S FRIGGIN' AWESOME! *bows down before him* I'm so excited that atleast one of my friends can understand why I like surgery so much. When I witnessed surgeries in India, I was overjoyed. I NEVER expected it to be the way it really was. It was absolutely incredible, and wonderfully rewarding. The truth of the matter is that you really can't judge all that blood and tearing apart people's body (or seemingly so) until you're actually there, and witness someone's heart pumping, or watch blood flowing through a person's carotid, and think about the fact that you are actually PHYSICALLY helping somebody; you are helping them heal. And all these years of preparation could not have been enough to get you to that point of appreciating how much you have learned until you are there and applying it. It is that simple. Experience is gold.

*boy o boys* ;)

Yeehaw! Yo, so one of the coolest experiences thus far is to be back in Dr. Essani's class...what a truly joyous experience!

We were discussing how the importance of viral studies have affected discoveries today, and somehow ended up at the issue about stem cell research. *WARNING THIS INCLUDES R-RATED MATERIAL. THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE NOT MATURE ENOUGH TO HANDLE ASSASINATIONS SHOULD CONSULT THIS SITE AFTER THEY ARE MORE MATURE. (as I now am)* ;)
Dr. Essani (from what I remember): "See, the issue isn't really pro-life or pro-abortion because life was already there! The sperm had to still be alive and bouncing around like hell and the egg was still alive too! So there is no such thing as life beginning at any particular stage because there was life all along!! If you really want to call the isolation of stem cells the death of a human at any particular stage of development that might be considered as 'alive' or a part of 'life' then every time a boy takes his Playboy magazine to the closet he is committing MASS MURDER!!!!!!"

Needless to say, I was massively blushing, gasping, having my mouth widely open and covered with both hands, and laughing uncontrollably ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!! *hahaha*

Some wonderful cool facts though: from "Fundamentals of Molecular Biology" -Acheson
"There are 10-50 million bacteriophages on average per ml of seawater, and even more in many soils. Given the enormous volume of the oceans, scientists have calculated that there may be as many as 10^31 bacteriophages in the world. This is about 10-fold greater than the estimated number of bacteria. In terms of mass, this many phages would weigh about 100 million tons, or the equivalent of 1 million blue whales (the largest animal on Earth). More astonishing, these 10^31 phages, if lined up head-to-tail, would stretch some 200 million light years into space-that is, far into the universe beyond many of our known neighboring galaxies (Milky Way measure about 150 light years edge to edge, and the furthest visible galaxies in the universe are approximately 10^9 light years away). Ecologically, more than 95-98% of the biomass in oceans is microbial the rest of which is made up of all other forms of life, fish, marine mammals, birds, and plants, and about half the oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere is generated by photosynthetic activity of marine microbes. It's been estimated that 20% of the microbes in the Earth's oceans are destroyed each day by virus infections. Therefore, viruses play a major role in the carbon and oxygen cycles regulating our atmosphere and feeding the world's population."

*wicked* eh?

*woot*

WOW! School's started!

It's so strange, I had a MAHVELOUS vacation, but honestly, being the gorgeous *bats lashes* nerd that I am, I was ever so slightly tingling with joy at the prospect of more knowledge! *eee* Unfortunately, I only have 11 credit hours *GASPS & FLAILS* ..compared to the 20 I have been taking over the past three years at Western. :o I just look at my schedule and blink. *blinks emptily* THERE'S SOOO MUCH BLANK SPACE! Just pure white, no class names, no shock at seeing a "0" behind the previously three digit class numbers, no catalog numbers, or professor names. Just 4 classes: (in order of interest) Virology, Pchem lab, Spanish Short Stories of the 19th century, and Family and Computer Science..actually the last class is (assumingly) so stupid that I don't even know it's official name. (FCS is just the department) *evil giggle* If my prof were by the non-grace of some noodly appendage reading this I bet he/she is thinking "hmm..let's see how you do." *oops*

In fact, I have so little that I'm actually sitting in Dr. Stapleton's Biochem 2 class (which kicks awesome biochem butt!) ..no, no, I'm not even registered, and don't get ANY credit/grades! Now, THAT is commitment to science babae. ;) (btw..I love science)

Ofcourse, I am teaching a microbiology class, and I was flipping through my old micro lab book and ran across my marvelously separated/tattered, battered with stains page about how to do a gram stain. *o, the memories* *swoons over hot John* *swoons over thoughts of a certain slutty barnacle that inhabited the seat beside me* *swoons over beautiful pink and blue cocci and rods under the microscope* *absolutely fails to swoon over those horrendous creations called bunsen burners*

That was some massive swoonage there. All in all, I'm very excited! And OMG..the new chem building, in which I will have my Pchem lab, Biochem 2 sit-in, and Micro TA is GORGEOUS!!!! It's soooooo beautiful! The organic labs have hoods for EVERY two students! Everything is so beautiful and well organized and neat, clean, and not falling apart due to the effects of gravity into some hideous underground dungeon! (p.s. If anyone wants dibbs into seeing the new building...I'm the go-to person for that. The 'tour' includes an all access pass to the Micro room, and staring through hallway sessions of all other labs and lecture rooms, as well as a marvelous cruise through the bridge connecting Wood hall and what is the new building, the Chemistry Annex) :D

Mis amigos from the lab are going to stop by for dinner hopefully on Friday. *eee* *pees pants* I'm SO excited! :D :D :D

reality wrote me a check

Yo! Peoples of de' world!

So a wonderful, or not-so-wonderful update on the happenstances of my life:
Med School Rejections:
Mayo Medical School
Case Western Reserve University
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Science Internship Rejection:
ProNAi labs
Any if not at all acceptances:
Microbiology teaching assistant position

I feel so incredibly transparent and worthless. Yea I'm smart...but what the HECK does that mean in the context of it all? Nobody seems to want me! I'm just lost as to how I can finally go about and start making something of myself. And it's hard. You know what I most want? I want to be able to do all of the following:
1. successfully have classes @ WMU
2. work @ S2 lab
3. TA
4. Work at a mahvelous pharmaceutical company
5. Get accepted to a gorgeous med school

None of the last two have occured yet. *hmm* *wonders why*

The Universe = WSOGMM

..The Whole Sort Of General Mish Mash. ;D

O dear Zarquon! It's been a good break..a much needed break. I have come to reevaluate my life from so many perspectives that I think I am kind of insane, for those of you who thought I already was, kindly add a 'little more' to that. :)

I worked my butt off at the lab in the beginning, got some results, and then confused the heck out of myself there on out. Currently, I'm still deep in confusion bliss as to what on planet..um, for a change, not Zarquon or Earth..Pluto! ..um..what on Pluto has been happening to my protein and thereby my results. So I gave up and yelled at myself a ton, and then my family decided to kidnap me and take me to Chicago for New Years! *awesome giggles* It was wicked cool..we did some indian grocery shopping, and I got to see fireworks TWICE!!!! Once at 12 and the second time at 7 the next day at Navy Pier. And the best part..I got to go to Shedds Aquarium!!!!!! *pees pants* OMG..I read this one natal birth chart thing-a-ma-jig doo-daah once that said I would be one who would be enraptured/fascinated with water and sea voyages. I swear, its true. I absolutely am fascinated by how wonderful life under water is. We know SO little about it! I can't imagine that we know even 15% about the oceans or their inhabitants yet. Goodness me...my family was really really excited to see the dolphins dance, but what was even better...was to see the Beluga whales wave their tails, spit at us, and play with basketballs and frizbee's! I LOVE WHALES!!!! If I were to ever be any organism but human, I would be a blue whale, and my trip to Shedds has definitely profoundly expanded my perspective on how much capacity to learn whales have too! They do just as much as dolphins, if not more! When the trainers were feeding them the would chatter and chirp really loud..I mean they have to to communicate over long distances right? And there was a baby Beluga only 6 months old, who had never before been trained and was playing with the basketball that was meant for the adult whales to play with. *smacks self for ending in preposition* But it was so incredible that even the trainers were surprised! And just the sheer size, of watching this huge beautiful white creature elegantly swim past you, or sometimes come right up against the rail where you're standing and spout water was breathtaking. I think I spent like 3 hours overally at the Beluga whale exhibit.

Apart from that, we saw otters ..um, doing it. At first they were just twirling around together, and everyone around us including us were pretty mesmerized by what was happening, and trying to guess why these two otters were so enraptured with each other. Well, big surprise. During some 'readjustment' the male otter's penis bobbed out for about 10 seconds for all of us to burst out laughing, blushing, and whatever else people do when they see an otter's penis, and then it bobbed back in. There on out, all of us who knew told newcomers of our new-found knowledge, and they'd giggle and gasp as if to say "really?!"...and we'd say.."yup, truly, and we promise." But when the male and female weren't actually 'attached' it was really pretty, because they would grasp eachother as if kissing and twirl around for a few minutes, up and down in the column of water totally oblivious to the other otter in the tank. It really was pretty cool.

And the humongous sea turtle in the reef exhibit had a HUGE crack on its shell, and we assumed that it was an injury. So everytime it tried to swim through the water it would only use its front two fins, whereas the two behind would just lag behind like a huge burden or unnecessary weight to carry around. All other turtles we saw used all four fins to swim.

Ofcourse, it was a beautiful day, and the Chicago skyline could not have been more perfect or more beautiful. It was only my mom, dad, and I that day, and wow..it was one of the best times of my entire life. I did wonder and dream about what would happen if I happened to fall into the Beluga whale tank..like would they attack? But that shall be solved by some wiki'ing.

:D O, and A MARVELOUS HAPPY NEW YEAR 2007 to all of you!!!!!! I hope it's grandiose and magnanimously fun! *mwa*

*uf* homo sapiens

I just realized, that each human has different religious, moral, ethical beliefs, different faiths, different modes of survival and action. But when you think about it, its really all just survival of the fittest eh? Could it be that humans are thusly different simply because they have 'adapted' to their individual physical and spiritual environments, and that these 'adaptations' will eventually lead to the survival of the human specie as a whole?

It's kind of sad. Sometimes I don't think humans deserve to survive because of how much damage we inflict upon everything around us, but at the same time am amazed and inspired by our intellectual capabilities and respect humans that much more. But I'm constantly told that humans are not a different entity from nature itself...so we are essentially only creatures that speed up the process of entropy (the part I hate), but that we're not really 'bad' because we're also a part of nature (the part I love).

O, and I'm 21. *massive bout of giggles* ;)

I'm 21!!!!!!!! :D :D :D *massive giggles*

"Don't ever let somebody tell you you can't do something. Not even me. All right? You got a dream? You gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they want to tell you you can't do it. You want something, go get it. Period."

..that is the GREATEST movie EVER!!!

*tip-sae*

...not really ;)
But, O my dearest goodness!

I am FINALLY DONE! The last few months have been SO trying! I felt like the ENTIRE time my feet walked around automatically, my hand scribbled notes furiously, and my brain fell off planet earth! *looks at it squished on planet Zarquon* (and its a mess)

I'm going to be 21 on Sunday!!! *eee* also, *pees pants*
I'm soooo excited, but kind of totally freaked out about this..I mean, it means i've got to grow up....pretty soon! *damn* All that responsibility in my hands! And I have NO CLUE what's going to happen on that day! *contemplates* *trembles*

O man, it has been so marvelous to NOT have school for a change. I got SO bored that I actually had a conversation with my labmate Dave Ruff about his and my definition of God. I think I confused him real well. :) But seriously, I haven't thought about stuff like that since man was created! *pun intended* And then, as if some Noodly Appendage blessed my phone...AMANDA CALLED!!! I had a massively huge bout of salivation. O man. It was soo good to hear her voice! That seemed like it hadn't happened since man was created either. *pun intended, again* And the next day, today, I woke my 'mature' butt up, dropped dad for a wicked load of meetings, and got my drivers license renewed. But o dear goodness, they just HAD to not tell me that it required taking the picture again, so my face looks like it's been mobbed by five thugs 1000lbs each, and my hair as if I rubbed it on a balloon, and my neck...well, the picture is so messed up its just my face. Damn those Secretary of State license controllers...I LIKED my old picture! *frowns* But I HAVE been called 'hot' TWICE this week! :) *heh* (I guess that's pretty uplifting..not) :) And THEN my gorgeous labmates signed this really cute card for me, saying how I should get drunk or that I should try a 'real' Piña Colada. (except for Dave Ruff, he went all "don't get drunk" on me) *haha* And they had a candle holder for me! *ee* And Jean got me the most ADORABLE little koala-bear adornment doo-dah for my car! I've been in love with those also since man was created, and am glad that one was finally created for me. :D

*wow..* That was quite a 'when man was created' rampage.

I'm SO happy. I am so happy to have the friends that I do. I love each and every one of them, and I thank he/she/it who created man to have blessed me with these wierdo's and nerds, because without them, I wouldn't be one myself. ;D

I LOVE YOU GUYS LIKE...um, LIKE A PROTON LOVES AN ELECTRON ?!

Methinks I'm depressed. I don't know what it is, just in general. Life is crap.

11! *AA* *dies..i mean..*is born*

Ok ok..I know 10's more exciting than 11, but my birthday is officially 11 days away! *pees pants*

I'm so confused. SO CONFUSED! It's been amazing. I'm at some strange point at my life where i'm experiencing every possible feeling I can feel, all within the last semester. I've felt happy, sad, funky, mad, confident, totally depressed, crazy (but thats natural), and sane, and...um, if i listed them all I'd be dead..and wouldn't get to celebrate my birthday. ;)

I'm so proud of who I am, because I know I'm smart, funny, and not too ugly, and a lot more sane that other girls my age. I'm cultured, perhaps what I'm MOST proud of, because that way I'm open to so many different points of view, but can still defend my own. I also really like that I'm curious, and even that I don't know who I am or what I want to do in the future. If I did, I'd have nothing to live for. I have double-handedly (yes, people have TWO hands) made it through this ridiculous semester (almost over), and hopefully I'll grow a third arm this weekend to help me on the finals. *prays to the God of Arms*

I've also fallen in love, with the SAME dude, OVER AND OVER AND OVER again! *AA* I hate him one day, and love him the next. *eesh* But I'm glad to be experiencing it, otherwise I'll never know what love feels like! :D (On a similar note, I'm really confused about when dudes flirt with you and you don't really know how to react..any suggestions would be HIGHLY appreciated!)

Um, what else? O ..ofcourse, *drones* I love my friends and my family. This has been the first time that I've experienced SOME form of 'tension' or 'argument' with each and every one of my friends (and mom and dad), and I'm glad for it, otherwise our friendship would never know how to withhold itself in tough times and how to forgive and forget.

I have no clue what awaits me next (hopefully, a more 'mature' sounding voice would help). I can't wait to get done with college, to get DONE WITH WESTERN! *ugh* Done with my gazillion degrees, my research project and see it PUBLISHED somewhere! Leave to go to med school and start all over again! Except there's like this HUMONGOUS gap between when I graduate and when med school starts, and I have NO CLUE WHAT TO DO!!! *aa* *waits patiently to be touched by the Speghetti Monster's noodly appendage and enlighten me*

*EEEE* Can't wait for it all to begin! Actually..*epiphany* it already has! :D *skips away joyously*

SIDENOTE: For those of you who know me, know this: NEVER, EVER take my chocolate deserts! I am in love with chocolate, and get immensely jealous to see it give pleasure to someone else but me.

wit

I highly recommend, that anyone, absolutely anyone who loves either literature, science, or medicine watch the movie Wit. I just watched it, and yes, it's one of those 'slow' ones, but incredibly powerful it is. It's about an english professor, an absolutely astounding scholar of the poetry of Donne, who has ovarian cancer and decides to take a trial drug for 8 months that might cure her. It's powerful I say, because so far, nothing has this clearly showed me the reality about health care. Nothing.

Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poor death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy, or charms can make us sleep as well,
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.

...move along

I had my first 'death' experience today..don't worry, you probably won't think its that serious by the end of this. But it was a pretty big deal for me. I was going to the lab to get something I had forgotten, and forgot to take my usual Rambling to Stadium to Howard route, so I travelled down Wincell to Oakland and Howard instead. Well, right about where I turn INTO my neighborhood, by Waite, I see like four cop cars, flashing lights and all *bling bling.* And I slow down, turn the music off, and see a cop flashing his torch for me to stop, and I do. But I found my mouth gaping wide...cause I saw a deer flailing around on the road ahead of me, and then I heard a *bang* The deer was out for 10 seconds, then flailed some more, after which it stopped. It died. My mouth was still open.

I have never in my life, EVER been to any funeral. Nor have I watched a living creature actually die. That may be a lie because I'm sure sometime I actually have seen an earthworm squirm to death or something, but I don't think my memory at this time permits me access to any form of death I've actually observed....o wait, there WAS this tiny bird that fell out of its nest when I was in second grade. I buried it. But that was a long time ago...and since I'm about to turn 21 in less than a month, I view this second experience of 'death' as an awakening. It was so strange. So many people have probably experienced something a lot worse, but I am truly affected by something this 'small,' this 'simple,' this 'unimportant incident' in the context of our entire lives. I also heard, for the first time in my life, a gunshot. An actual gunshot, and it wasn't at all the BIG bang I expected..just a small bang. To think it inflicts such damage, to think it inflicts death. I am glad I experienced this tonight.

This has been a really really tough semester for me. I have 20 credit hours, which for a lot of college students is worth fainting over. Plus, I'm teaching a lab/lecture biology course, and even though its tough, my students have most definitely made it worth while. I squeeze research in here and there, and then there's the biggest doozie of them all...my med school applications. *uf* So much stuff to do..constantly. On top of that, I feel bad, but kind of enlightened, that I'm distanced from a lot of my friends right now. Amanda is far away, so its just a distance barrier. But I fought with my friend Steve, and am currently in the process of doing the same with Sandhya. Its true, sometimes I hate life. And life encompasses such conflicts. But I need to grow up. I need to realize that friends are friends, and the truth of the matter is, someday we will all move along. It is simply a truth I have to face. If I don't, I will perish in foolishness of not recognizing reality.

On my way back home, I took Howard, and the deer was gone. I think there was some blood on the road. But the greatest lesson I've learned is that of moving on. That's all you've got to do...move along. But it still saddens me.

Tis natural. :)

gobbledygook

We had a pretty intense discussion about advertisements in my political science class. It went something like this...

Some dudette: "Well, just like Phillip Morris tricked people into thinking that light cigarette's are bad for people, I think Mc Donalds and Burger King do the same with burgers."
Class: "WTF?!!"
Counterdude: (He probably thought: YOU IDIOT!, first) then went: "Think about how someone can die from second hand smoke. I don't think one can die from sitting next to someone eating a bigmac."

Walking out of class:

Karen: "I think I'm wearing too much clothes."
Me: "Yea, you should take them off. But then you'd be naked."
Karen: "Yea, and by the 'slippery slope' you're next to me so your clothes would automatically fall off of you too!"

:o

Just a sidenote: This is a translation of a mantra in sanskrit called the Gayatri Mantra:
"If the Sun is the source of Light to the Earth,
What is the source of power to the Sun?
Verily, a Flame, and the Flame that is greater than the Universe.
Can that Flame illumine my mind?
Why not, let me try and find!"

o my dear god...life rules!

Essani: "We (Eversole and himself) are God. And God is never wrong."

"I will tell you this joke. There was a woman who suffered a terrible accident and had a near death experience. She saw God and asked him 'Am I going to die?' God: 'No, you still have 40 years, 8 months and 13 days to live.' The woman recovers, and thinks 'Wow, I have SO long to live!' So she gets her nose did, and boobs implanted, and after tons of surgeries she walks out of a final nose-job looking hot and sassy. She gets into another accident, and dies. When she encounters God she asks him 'You said I had so much time, so why am I dead?' God: 'O! I'm sorry...I didn't recognize you!'"

:) The dude cracks me up! *HAHA*

Other than all that bajagaloop...Swapna definitely FLOODED the entire one half of the fourth floor including her lab at Haenicke today!!!! Holy shit.

There was a leak in the tap and a slip of paper was blocking the drain, so the water poured out of the sink, all over their lab and out into the hallway. So me, being the greatest 'go to person' for such gorgeous emergencies scoured all the labs to find squeejy mops (reminds me of Rossbach's 'skveez') and we spent two entire hours mopping up the floor! It looked GORGEOUS after, and then we raced eachother all across the Haenicke hallway! SO MUCH FUN! I got a tear in my skirt. I know... *scandalous* AND the funniest of it all was watching Pramod catwalking, the Nerve Gas Bomb farting, and Sandhya wearing the most gorgeous perfume ever known to exist!

O man...tonight was truly glorious! I laughed until my stomach hurt, until my eyes watered, until my teeth were clenched in breathless happiness. It's been a really long time since that happened.

*fumes*

Damn...that dragon is hot.

From A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:
"The story so far: In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. Many races believe that it was created by some sort of god, though the Jatravartid people of Viltvodle VI believe that the entire Universe was in fact sneezed out of the nose of a being called the Great Green Arkleseizure. (dudes...i SERIOUSLY just sneezed...freaky) The Jatravartids, who live in perpetual fear of the time they call The Coming of the Great White Hankerchief, are small blue creatures with more than fifty arms each, who are therefore unique in being the only race in history to have invented the aerosol deodorant before the wheel.

....And this computer, which was called the Earth, was so large that it was frequently mistaken for a planet- especially by the strange apelike beings who ramed its surface, totally unaware that they were simply part of a gigantic computer program. And this is very odd, because without that fairly simple and obvious piece of knowledge, nothing that ever happened on the Earth could possibly make the slightest bit of sense."

And o man, this doesn't make any sense, but I realized that friendship means more than anything. If it weren't for friends, we'd die trying to explain our lives to our parents, the difficulty level of which is similar to disproving the existance of The Great Green Arkleseizure to the Jatravartid's.

Friendship is when you can make fun of the person in front of you, and they respond with equal, and in some cases, even more brutality. And then we kill each other. :)

What a happy ending.

2063!

I was talking to Sandhya today...about whether or not I could handle three western blots at a time. She looked at me, took her index finger, and pointed to her brain. At first I was clueless...but then realized what she meant:

"It's all in your mind."

Thats the best advice I've EVER recieved. Everything negative I think about myself, absolutely EVERYTHING I do, is based on what I think about it, and how I thereby choose to act. My friend Steve asked me the other day how one should go about becoming mature. Perhaps it starts at rational thought. At thinking. At thinking about what is IN your mind, what you'd like to put there, what you'd like to discard, and on what you'd like to act. That's maturity.

O, and you may ask why 2063? Well, ITS OUR NEW YEAR!!!!! (according to the Indian calendar) :) So, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!!

IgA!

So, um, a long time ago, an experiment was done when two groups of people were exposed to different conditions. One group was exposed to happy HAPPY conditions, such as watching really really funny movies until their eyes teared up. The second group was exposed to sad conditions, watching movies that make you cry etc.

Well, IgA is an antibody that is secreted in general in all mucosal membranes, including tears. When scientists tested levels of IgA in tears of these two groups, they found that IgA levels were MUCH higher in the happier conditioned group than in the sad group. This whole experiment was designed to test the relationship between the immune system and the nervous system. So it showed that IgA immunoglobulin levels directly correspond to how happy a person is!!!! :D *EE*

I don' t know what you think, but I think I'm QUITE the happy person! Thanks SO MUCH IgA!

So if you're EVER feeling sad...pray...to IgA. ;)

butta'flies!!!

So I actually thought I was a smart person. But after how this semester's been going, and half of it is done...um, I'm not so sure. Apart from coursework, I've become horrendously weird, and haven't been speaking to people as much as I often do. And I really really don't know why!

Its like Shruti turned off.

I've decided maybe a haircut might change that. But I'm not so sure. Crud.

I feel like a butterfly. I'm colorful, but I've had my ups and downs, and I can't take anymore!!!!

Ecstatic about failing! :D

PChem test 1: 32/100 (class average, 36)
PChem test 2: 51/100 (better than class average...i was busy fainting and being shocked to check)

I am currently HIGHLY questioning my own ability to view my own score. I think I might have looked at someone else's score...because i REALLY REALLY thought I would get a 10! Maybe it was a typo...maybe its actually an 11!!!!

On another note, my mom found my FAVORITE nursery/grade 1 cartoon educational video that I used to watch while growing up in India. I cried. I REMEMBER IT! All of it! OMG...it still is my favorite. You may not understand it, because it is in Hindi, but you can tell what the basic jist is; that of the kids learning that there's one, and there's many. But that when many come together, there's power in it.

Abrupt end. :)

Planets! *pees pants*

Click on title for *a tour through the planets!*

OMG...I often find myself imagining how tiny, insignificant, and unimportant i am. That was a lower-case 'i.' oye....i'm like not even a quark compared to our solar system! ...maybe i'm a string (as string theorists propose)...but there's debate as to whether strings exist or not...so maybe in the context of the universe i don't really exist!

MY EXISTANCE IS UNDER DEBATE!

wow..i'm THAT small! seriously...and I thought a couple of feet of more 'tallness' would help..well here's to all the tall people:

YOU DON"T MATTER EITHER!!! *MUHAHAHAAHAHAHA* *devilish grin*

*holy crap* I don't think I know what i'm saying anymore. *eeehee*

Dreams of Jade

Life is....

Fantastic, wonderful, unpredictable, glorious, challenging, awesome, beautiful, full of love, and full of love.

I love life right now. Being away from some of my best friends has given me an insight as to how much I love and miss them. I miss Amanda most of all. Everytime I read her blog, my eyes tear up, and my throat hurts like HELL. *haha* Why does that happen? Physiologically...WHY does the throat hurt so much when you want to cry but don't let yourself? *thinks deeply*

I also got to go to the University of Michigan this weekend! OMG. It was AMAAAAAZZIINNGGG. I'm pretty sure if I got accepted there I'd go in a nanosecond..correction...picosecond! (except if I got 'accidentally' accepted into Mayo or Johns Hopkins :) ) I have finally realized that my passion has always resided within me..and I'm glad I doubted my motives/future. I doubted whether I should pursue MD/MD-Phd. But now I'm sure. I want to be a doctor. No amount of persuasion could change that. MD-PhD is 80% research, which leaves barely 20% to clinical experiences/patient care. I love research. But seriously, if I wanted to do research, I'd have decided a long time to pursue a PhD instead. Why spend 8 years of my life devoted to research with a 'clinical' setting..I'm pretty sure a PhD alone would let me do that too. But I've always loved patient interaction..and a pretty humongous part of me now wants to think about pediatrics..It'd be awesome! And I LOVE kids! *swoons* :)

I'm going for the MD.

I feel so enlightned. So inspired by my struggle to reach this far. This week was Navratri, an indian festival where we spend 9 nights praying and celebrating with our Gods. Its in moments like these where I realize how unique I am. I love my culture, my religion, but I also love the other religions I've been exposed to..christianity. And I cannot live without Science. I have a religion/faith of my own. I love my family, and I love my friends. I couldn't live without this moment. So I'm really glad it happened. What took so long? Life is a challenge.

And I can finally dream of space...dreams of Jade.

*random oozy emotions*

"After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul, and you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company doesn't mean security, and you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises, and you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child. and you learn to build all your roads on today, because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans. after a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much. so plant your own garden, and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. and you learn that you really can endure.. that you really are strong, and you really do have worth."

"Since there is no help, come let us kiss and part;
Nay, I have done, you get no more of me,
And I am glad, yea, glad with all my heart
That thus so cleanly I myself can free;
Shake hands forever, cancel all our vows,
And when we meet at any time again,
Be it not seen in either of our brows
That we one jot of former love retain.
Now at the last gasp of love's latest breath,
When, his pulse failing,
Passion speechless lies,
When Faith is kneeling by his bed of death,
And Innocence is closing up his eyes,
Now if thou wouldst, when all have given him over,
From death to life thou mightst him yet recover."

...dunno who

don't worry! i'm really really happy! :D *Oye* Sometimes reading stuff makes you think.

*duh* :)

Once upon a time...

O my goodness...there was a time. There was a time when I was fascinated by our solar system, by the wonderful 9 planets that made it up. I would always marvel at how far away Pluto always was, and how icy and cold it would be. I was also only recently, like one year ago, astonished at discovering that Pluto has a moon called Charon! I mean, such a tiny planet could have a moon! That some scientists actually considered it a binary planetary system...in our own solar system! And I further delved myself into it and found out that NASA had designed an exploration called New Horizons that would advance to study Pluto, Charon, and the outer Kuiper Belt at the edge of our solar system. And New Horizons would actually carry a CD that could be electronically signed by people all over the world ...the pleasure of your name reaching the edge of our solar system. Me being the huge nerd that I am signed my name, and the names of everyone in my family, including a few best friends. :) It was the coolest experience to see the New Horizons spacecraft take off on January 19, 2006. The craft will go past Jupiter and its moons, so they'll get to study it too, and will reach Pluto in July of 2015! *WICKED*

What I don't get...is WHY on planet earth do humans have the tendency to cram a bunch of old men into tiny rooms with no windows, those with porous brains who have no sense because they've reached the pinnacle of 'senility,' and thereby seethe incompetence in upholding the good, not as immediately important but controversial, and well defined things in life and thereby destroy centuries of good old icy PLANETS! Pluto does not violate the size issue, rather is not considered a planet anymore because it dips into Neptune's orbit.

Why o why can't people put a bunch of old people into tiny rooms with no windows, those with porous brains, and hand them the other gazillions of crisis that are plaguing our world?...well, that is kind of what we're currently doing. We present these gorgeous professionals of aging with the problems of our world, such as pandemics like HIV, hunger and starvation due to poverty, global warming etc. and instead of attempting to solve them they decide to begin BLOWING STUFF UP!!!!! And make everything even worse...o what's that? Yea..worse...more hunger and starvation+mutilation, more terrorism on global warming..as in all the shit that the atmosphere's being exposed to as a result of rich people buying a million Hummers, and poor people being exposed to the gases bombs release, and did i mention that blowing up stuff can possibly release dormant pathogens into the environment and cause even more pandemics? Instead of resolving such problems, these dumb old people decide to go to war, and vanquish innocent planets that have nothing to do with earth, but everything to do with the definition and omnipotence of our solar system.

So can we PLEASE stop cramming old people into windowless rooms?! Can we PLEASE start taking a stand?!

By 'we' I mean...OUR GENERATION! a.k.a. those who have functional neurons!!!!!!!

Once upon a time, Pluto was a planet. It isn't anymore.

*SO MAD*

*confucius*

Dr. Essani quotes: (immunology prof)
'If you're really interested in something there's no way you can fail in it.'
'Immunoglobulins are the same thing as antibodies...except that immunoglobulins are sexy.'
'None of us are dumb, none of us are geniuses, we're all equal. It depends on how much you want to learn'
'You can learn wisdom from fools.'
'If someone sneezes don't say Bless You! Say COVER YOUR MOUTH!' *haha*
'Scientists are terminally differentiated.'

Apart from all this gorgeous philosophy...I think I'm in love...again! Holy crap. SOMEONE SLAP ME!

Dorfus Chickenfrack

Peoples of the World!!!

The semester has officially begun. And the following are ALL the marvelous things I will accomplish over the course of next three months!

Coursework: Immunology (for which I am MOST excited!), Medicinal Chemistry (2nd most exciting), Physical Chemistry (of which I'm most worried...correction..HORRIFIED!), Life and Culture of Spain (in which I will happily put my feet up and enjoy), Political Science (in which I will simply enjoy my friends), and an honors class called Health Care Ethics (for which currently only 4 people including myself are registered!).

Also...mmm..my 'commitment to research.'
My med school app...BY THIS WEEKEND I SWEAR! :)
O! and TAing for BIOS 1100.

I've only had barely a week to enjoy, of which I spent 4 days at the lab 'experimenting to failure.' But I had three GORGEOUSLY SPECTACULAR days with my family! We went beaching! And I for the first time in me life saw a full sunset! It was AMAZING! I did wonder though why the sun changes shape as it sets..is it because of how the light rays are diffracted through various 'concentrations' of the atmosphere caused by the curve of earth? (I know..thats a mouthful :) )

I've been LOVING the rain/sun fluctuations lately..its been INCREDIBLE to lie in my back yard reading "A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" with the sun shining down on me..while at the same time I've LOVED going to bed listening to the pitter patter of raindrops on my window and porch roof. I think rain invigorates me! It's so refreshing after a good rainfall..dad says is because the dust settles. True?

Anywho..sorry for the delay in updates...now..back to a semester sizzling/pouring with hot dudes and thereby hot crushes! :D
